Bee Gees – “New York Mining Disaster 1941”įor many Americans, “New York Mining Disaster 1941” was their initial introduction to the Bee Gees as the 1967 single marked one of the band’s first international hits. ![]() The orchestra-inspired, string synthesizers became a staple of the disco era with help from this Hot 100 No. Getting John Travolta flashbacks, yet? “Night Fever” is the subtle-yet-strong disco single that changed the course of iconic 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever - it was originally titled Saturday Night, but the band insisted the title was not good and the idea of their song “Night Fever” was incorporated into the title. While California was being romanticized as a final destination for the hippie generation, the Bee Gees took an opposing viewpoint with “Massachusetts.” Here, the song’s subject had joined the flower-power movement and traveled to San Francisco, only to want to return to the East Coast despite the fact that “the lights all went down in Massachsetts.” The soothing track helped the band donate more than $7 million to the charity and was recognized by then-president Jimmy Carter. While “Too Much Heaven” saw the brother band leaning more towards R&B style, the track is also notable for the fact that the band promised to donate all the royalties they received from it to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, a.k.a. UNICEF. Most likely, it was released even one or two years prior 1973.One of the Bee Gees’ most recognizable singles, also happens to be one that helped out those in need. If you already have all the adapters you need, consider Nero Platinum, which is one of the most well-known burning applications and lets you do a wide range of things to your media aside from simply archiving it. The Vidbox Video Conversion Suite is a purpose-designed system that works well and comes with all the software and hardware needed, although it's a bit limiting if you ever decide you want to use alternate software, because it's just not compatible. The simplest DIY options are the DigitNow Capture Tool and the Elgato Video Capture, which plug into your VCR and your PC's USB 2.0 slot - don't use a USB 3.0 port or it might produce some static or video noise. There are a few different routes you can take when you want to preserve your VHS video to save space and make them last quite a bit longer. Those who would like to avoid doing their own DVD burning should be aware that Lotus Media Digitization Service is the only one of these two that will undertake that process for you. Though it doesn't provide you with the same level of customization, sending your tapes to a company like Lotus Media Digitization Service or Time To Remember Transfer may be both the simplest and most affordable option if you're only dealing with a few tapes. ![]() Still, the easiest option of all is letting someone else do the work. Those who would prefer this method but are unable to find a VCR may be interested in the Funai Combination Recorder, which combines a VCR and a DVD recorder into one device. However, it should be noted that this also makes them less ideal if your intention is to share the videos online, as you would have to rip your DVDs in order to do so. ![]() Whereas with a software solution you would first capture the video and then separately burn it to a DVD these devices begin transferring an incoming video signal to a blank disc the moment you hit record, thereby saving you some extra steps and often avoiding the harsh compression that is applied by many programs. These purpose-built DVD recorders offer several benefits over their PC-based counterparts, not the least of which is leaving your computer unoccupied during hours-long recording sessions. If you're converting a lot of VHS to DVD you may be better off with a dedicated piece of technology like the Toshiba DR430 or Sony VRDMC6. In fact, if you are interested in open-source software it's best you avoid proprietary bundles, since the adapters they come with are usually locked to the program they're packaged with. If you decide to pursue this method, the good news is that you can pick up a super affordable adapter such as the If-Link Capture Card. This route allows you to create as high- or low-quality files as you desire, and gives you the opportunity to fiddle with different deinterlacing algorithms, bitrates, and all sorts of other settings that simplified proprietary programs usually don't provide. These options all produce highly compressed digital video files that are small and easy to send over the internet, but users who are looking to make the highest-quality recording they can may be better off with third-party or open-source solutions. However, their simplicity may also be detrimental for those who are trying to create an archival-quality result. These choices all focus first and foremost on ease of use, which definitely makes them a great selection for people who simply want a quick way to share their old home movies with family and friends. This would include options like Elgato Video Capture, Vidbox Video Conversion Suite, or the more affordable Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac. These days the most common solution for transferring VHS videos to playable DVDs is picking up a software package that's bundled with a USB capture card. ![]() ![]() Along with our classroom training, at one of our many locations, we also offer online and self-paced training. We want to determine wether the combination of online class and tutorial video method in the COVID-19 pandemic setting can be feasible and effective in teaching surgical skills that conventionally taught directly in class or skills laboratory session. However, our study is slightly different as we observe the effectiveness of online learning in teaching medical students basic surgical knotting. The comparison between the effectiveness of online learning and offline learning has also been reported in few studies. Many studies presented the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning in general such as using video conference through zoom application. Furthermore, having too many knots may increase tissue reaction, and cause prolonged inflammation, thus impairing wound healing, and making a bulging scar. However, a tight surgical knot may result in tissue ischemia leading to impaired healing and leakage. A loose surgical knot may result in many complications, such as hemorrhage, anastomotic leakage, incisional hernia, impaired in tissue healing, and poor cosmetic appearance. Ī good surgical knot is important for loop security to ensure good tissue attachment and healing. found that the use of video-based instruction to teach surgical hand disinfection is more effective, efficient, and acceptable than conventional instruction. found that the addition of video is better than traditional skills sessions alone, while Weber et al. found that video education approaches were as effective as direct demonstrations in teaching nursing students how to change nursery dressing. found that video education is superior to traditional skill demonstration in providing medical students with knowledge of sterile surgical techniques. Some studies showed that video education is at least as good as the traditional methods in teaching medical students. This makes e-learning as the only feasible choice to continue education in this pandemic setting. ![]() Also in early 2020, Indonesian government imposed a wide scale social restrictions to limit the acceleration of COVID-19 transmission, therefore forbidding on-site learning in school and universities. One of the challenges faced by medical education institutions was how to train the procedural skill subjects without the traditional live demonstrations and directly observed skills laboratory. Many universities and schools have shifted from on-site classes to online formats to accommodate physical distancing safety protocols. Even now that Cyber Monday is over, some deals are still available - including an Xbox Series X restock, happening right now at Walmart. I'm Marshall Honorof, a senior editor at Tom's Guide, back to highlight more Xbox Series X deals. $840 for an Xbox Series X and two years of Game Pass is a good deal anything more than that, and the math starts to break down. But if you miss a payment, the company can exact all sorts of fees and interest from you, so make sure you set up some kind of system in advance. As long as you pay on time each month, that shouldn't be a problem. Just be aware that you'll have to take out a new line of credit with Citizens Pay if you want to join the All Access program. (The Xbox Series X costs $500 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $15 per month, or $360 for two years.) That's a lot of money - but to be fair, it's $20 less than you'd pay for the two products separately. ![]() In total, you'll wind up paying $840 for the Xbox and the Game Pass subscription. You also get two years' worth of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which lets you download and stream hundreds of games on Xbox consoles, PC, Android and iOS. An Xbox Series X costs $35 per month for 24 months. In case you missed the last post, Xbox All Access is a program that lets you buy an Xbox console via monthly installments, rather than paying for it all at once. This probably won't be your last chance before Christmas, but it may be your last chance that won't involve a frantic scramble for a restock that disappears in less than a minute. If you want an Xbox Series X, you have the opportunity to get one right now. ![]() While I'm hesitant to post the same deal twice, it's been an hour and a half since Xbox Series X All Access came back in stock at Walmart - and it's still there. Either way, happy holidays, and happy gaming! If you already have one, I hope you've found some good deals on games and accessories through this live blog. If you're trying to acquire an Xbox Series X, then I wish you good luck, and hope that Tom's Guide can be of some assistance. That's the end of my blog shift for the night. It was also one of the first "Optimized for Xbox Series X/S" games, making it an ideal choice for current or future Xbox Series X owners. With precise shooting and impressive set pieces, Gears 5 is an excellent game on its own merits. In this third-person shooter, you take control of Kait Diaz as she squares off against a variety of deadly foes. Gears 5 is the latest entry in the popular Gears of War franchise. In any case, I don't want to list the same deal three times in a row, so instead, I'll close out the night with one of the cheapest Xbox Series X games deals I've seen this year. Otherwise, just wait for a traditional console restock and buy the whole thing up front. If you're absolutely positive that you can pay the full amount, every month, on time, it's worth considering. Still, something about buying a console through a credit company rather than a retailer just doesn't sit right with me. It's not a tremendous amount of money per month, and both the Xbox Series X and the two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are well worth their asking prices. It's a surefire way to get an Xbox Series X, which is arguably worthwhile all by itself. Xbox Series X All Access: $35 per month Walmartįor the record, I'm agnostic about this deal. If you're ready to pony up $35 per month for the next two years, get it below, while you still can: Amazingly, the Xbox Series X All Access deal is still available. I think in about 6 months or so or less I should be more experienced with it all. The only thing I'm trying to get my head around is that it sometimes cuts around an image twice, so I must be doing something wrong, sometimes it doesn't. You're right, I like the nesting idea in Vinylmaster as I did some cuts using that and it works well. I do all the creating and editing on that as well as Illustrator. It doesn't need RIP software as it has a print driver and my Photoshop handles the colours pretty well. I have a HP large format printer (dye inks, hardly any maintenance) that I use sometimes for some indoor artwork as I am graphic designer too. I'm really new with all of these eco-solvent printers and cutters, so I am learning all the time. I'm sold and you're right it's not that expensive compared to all the others out there. so I'd e-mail, explain its for a charity and not business. I don't think you'll find better/cheaper than vinyl master sadly. Just an upgrade to get cutting capabilities is $1000. Heck, even my "HP edition flexi doesn't do cut-contour. Compare it to a rip like Onyx, and you're looking at 4-5k. To be honest, the software is already really, really cheap for what it is. Not as good as hand tracing, but much better than illustrator's automatic tracer. ![]() The "Vectorizer" seems to do a decent job too. I may buy Vinyl master just for nesting, if CM4 doesn't do it. I havent played around in CM4 for more than a few minutes though, so maybe it was added. I like how you can nest stuff when cutting. I use flexi at home (Had it for a week, so I don't know how it compares) And onyx at work. I did download it and give it a try - Seems ok. If it's for a bonified charity, they can write it off as a donation. If it's just a "I want to print cool **** for my friends, so I wont be making profit" They'll probably say too bad. If it's for a REAL charity, they'll probably kick in and give it to you for a discount. ![]() I didn't want it for free as someone on here thinks it was the case. You gotta try, everyone haggles in life to get bargains, what makes this any different. It looks like some people might think I'm a cheapskate, but money is real tight at the moment and as I'm not doing this for business, this is the reason why I asked this question. i'm always learning of course, which is why I would need help for example on how to remove and clean a printhead or what type it is, etc. I had a large format HP printer once that used dye inks and I completely stripped it apart and refurbished it to brand new with new parts, including belts, service station, some boards, etc. I do like some help and advice on how to fix certain things as I don't know everything. I already have a ton of inks and I was an electronic engineer and have fixed a large format printer before. I did notice that they sell for academics and students for a real cheap price. I was hoping that then partnering with uscutter to bundle their software would give them a cash infusion to get more developing done but if it has, we haven't seen it. They have also been promising an upgrade since 2014 and we haven't seen it yet. ![]() I have not been able to cut from it either to my graphtec so I usually create in vinylmaster, export as PDF and then open in flexi to crest contour cuts then save again as a PDF and open in Onyx for print/cut. I usually end up resizing and saving or export as a jpeg for print on non-color specific jobs. Exporting of a larger sized design to PDF usually doesn't work and if you try and fail, you have to completely restart the program to be able to export anything to a PDF. It is also extremely easy to use effects with tons preloaded as well as an entire library of corporate vector logos and tons of other things. I love the software for layout and design and find it easier and faster to use than illustrator, flexi, Corel or photoshop since it has a lot of stuff built in for both raster and vector work. The driver they had didn't work right and I don't remember specifically, but I don't think you could build different profiles from it. I bought it with the intention of printing to my HP l25500. Just make sure they have a GOOD working driver for your printer. |
